I know there are quite a few people who don't like Vista, but I am not one of them. I like Vista, and promise that Win 7 will be even better.
That said there is one important feature that Vista and Win 7 provide that XP just doesn't do well at all. That one feature is paramount to the future of computing. Wonder what it is?
64 bit support! It's coming. It needs to get here sooner than later. Vista and Win 7 are your only true, workable, solutions.

Me too Dave!! You know my history, know I've been around a while and gone through every Windows OS since its inception...Vista is [i:37ci24dr]the[/i:37ci24dr] best yet!
Some pertinent facts:
Most who criticize Vista have had no long term experience using it....[i:37ci24dr]most[/i:37ci24dr] not all.
Comparisons between XP and Vista have been made with XP around at least 6 years and Vista, relatively, brand new. [i:37ci24dr]Of course[/i:37ci24dr] XP was more stable and supported more software....sheeesh!!! After SP1 I can honestly say Vista is the most stable, reliable Windows OS I have ever used, goodness knows how good it would be given a further 4 years!!
There is one point I've been making over and over:
Most 'experts' agree that Windows 7 is the Vista core with some GUI changes and less baggage...a sort of Vista Lite and even M$ exec Steve Bullmer has described it thus. Given that is generally accepted, why then is Vista so terrible and Windows 7 so bl**dy marvelous.....it doesn't make any sense!

Come on guys. Did you read the article in question? I'm aware that all o/s have a shelf live, even XP. It's just that M$ made XP soooooooo good, and besides the obvious 64 bit migration, what else is there? Year 2012 is when M$ promises to cut support for XP.
Yes, that might be a glorious year for non XP fans like yourselves. Imagine knowing you've got about 36 months to live. Would one cram all one could, or just live?
The article did mention the M$ was responsible for the death of Vista. Why? Money! So don't shoot the messenger. Besides, it was meant for XP fans, Mindblower!

Yes MB, I sure did read the article and I am definitely not an XP hater nor am I not a fan of XP. I didn't mean my comments as a put down of XP rather as support for Vista. XP was and still is a very good operating system, no-one is doubting that nor stating otherwise. I just happen to believe that Vista is even better.
XP is unique in the history of Windows, no other OS has gone on for anywhere near as long, 8 years now.....and when you take into consideration it was really a Win2K upgrade, even longer.
Vista suffered a lot because it really was a radical departure, something which M$ had never done before. Prior to the release of Vista each new OS sort of ran on from the previous and so the learning curve and period of familiarisation were relatively short...particularly so with XP. That blueprint was broken with Vista and that, combined with XP's extraordinary longevity, is to a large extent what has contributed to Vista's poor acceptance rate among XP users.
Didn't mean to shoot the messenger me ol' china plate, apologies if that was the impression. I just get sick and tired of the Vista knockers out there...it really is, in a lot of cases, a 'bandwagon' mentality.

My deepest and sincerest apologies ozbloke. Truly am sorry you mistook my love of XP as an attack from those who prefer other systems (better than just saying Vista ).
Reading your post had me which almost brought out tears (of joy). Never implied or mean to imply that we cannot have our own favourites, and be proud of 'em. Hope this post brings you the same .
