I'm running a very basic 3-year-old Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, XP sp3, and trying to update Adobe Reader from my user account. Partway through the update, got the message that I did not have authority to access a file. This is a first when updating on this machine.

I switched from the user account to Administrator, but get only a blank screen with the message, "Setting up personalized settings for Windows Desktop Update." It has not budged in the past 40 minutes. Task Manager says it's running, but nothing is happening.

Suggestions?
Thanks.

Try not to switch to Administrator.

Rather restart and log-in only to ur Administrator account.

[b:2cal6uhw]BUT: before u do that, do a Scan of ur system being in the current non-Admin account.[/b:2cal6uhw]

Thansk,
Grr

Thanks, Grr. I had rebooted and run a complete scan, then lightened up Security settings in my user account. That worked. Again, thanks for your input.
