Is the 64bit XP os stiill a viable system. I had to upgrade my hardware to a quad core Phenom with an Asus mobo and 1gig graphic card. I will be using 8 gig of memory so I decided I might as well use the 64bit OS I have but never used. I guess my question is ... is it worth it or should I buy WinVista 64 or Window7 64bit. Yeah it's all bout the money.

Hey Kinath - Yep, it's usually about the money mate!

Can you clarify please.....do you already have a copy of XP 64-bit in hand?

It's ironic you should pose this question at this time. I have just installed Windows7 64-bit on a second internal HDD. Been using 32-bit versions of Windows for years and someone prompted me (Dave actually) to give the 64-bit version a whirl. Must admit, so far I am impressed. I have always been worried by lack of software support for 64-bit systems but that does not seem to be the case any more. Just about got all my usual software installed and, even though it has to be 32-bit versions in some cases, everything is working fine. Also located a 64-bit driver for my 2 year old Epson multi-function without any problems.

It's difficult to guess exactly when Microsoft will stop supporting XP, perhaps someone else might know or be able to hazard a guess. One thing is certain, they will stop it eventually.

If it were I, money issues aside, I would be going for the 64-bit version of their latest OS, Windows 7.

Cheers.....JIM

Rumours have it being sometime within the next three years. They keep pushing the date back though, so it's anyones guess (and they're still selling it!!)

If you're looking to purchase an OS, I would go with Windows 7. Even if you own a copy of XP 64 bit, I would still be looking very hard at Windows 7.

That's my 2 bits. heh, sorry.

Ziggie and Ozboke are right on target.

It seems like you've built quite a system. I would spend a few bucks on Windows 7 and go 64bit.
