My laptop is a HP G60-447CL Running Vista Home Premium. I have a problem with Windows Explorer crashing every time I want to open a file, shortcut or program with a right click of the mouse. I use a USB mouse but the problem happens whether the mouse is used or the touch pad is used. Any ideas why? All anti virus , anti spy ware, anti malware programs are updated with latest updates and All Windows Updates are updated . If it can't be corrected I guess it will be time to restore it back to as new function.

Hey DD - These Windows Explorer issues can generally be put down to shell extensions installed by third party programs. Here is an article on "How To: diagnose and [possibly] fix Windows Explorer crashes".

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the link to the article. I made a PDF file of it so I can try the tips when my grandson is in school Monday. Anything that I need to concentrate on, I  need quiet and no one to aggravate me. I recently had a problem with Avast on the laptop getting corrupted and couldn't un-install it until I re-installed it. So I think that might play a part in it.

Hey Dawn - Strangely, I had a similar issue with Avast (free) not so long back. Best method for uninstalling Avast completely is to use the special uninstall tool provided by the developers: Avast Uninstall Utility

BTW: Meant to say -  if you have any problems following the guide or using ShellExView just give us a holler.

Cheers... Jim
