Spell check in Windows Mail occasionally wrong

Every now and again my spell check in Windows Mail in Windows Vista Home Premium tells me that everything is OK when it is obviously not OK as I can see that I have accidentally pressed the wrong keys and a word or two are obviously wrong.
In the main the spell check works OK for 90 odd percent of the time so the problem is random and very infrequent but it means I can't really trust it.
It's only a minor problem.
I have tried changing the language from English to a foreign language and then back again in a sort of forlorn hope it might reset itself but that has not worked.
Any suggestions as to what may be going wrong

Hey Lancastrian - Does this happen when the resultant word is not legitimate? Spellcheck will not correct words which, because of a typo, end up out of context but remain legitimate....e.g. if you want to say, "I was going down the road" and inadvertently type..."I was going down the rod"....spellcheck will ignore the misspelled 'rod' because it is still a legitimate word, even though in the sentence it is out of context.

am I close,
cheers....JIM
