Will report back as soon as I can implement all of the recommendations made. Hopefully one will strike paydirt.

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this issue. Will try to answer some of the questions posed:
1. Running IE 8 now and with success 95% of the time. Still have the occassional screen freeze which requires a restart to get out of but this happens in Word, Outlook, on the net, just about anywhere.
2. NIC is a separate card.
3. Tried with no add-ons but it did not make a noticeable difference.
4.Windows Log Tree did not indicate any problems.

No particular symptoms associated with this issue --- just happens with no warning. Thanks for your input.

I'm leaning toward a driver problem. I've seen instances where the computer freezes, but it locks up so hard that a BSOD never appears. I would look for an updated Video and NIC driver from the manufacturers websites, not the computer manufacturer (If you have Nvidia video go to Nvidia.com, etc). Be sure to get the right driver for your OS - 32bit or 64bit.

Update on this issue: Have reconnected the wireless keyboard & mouse. Downloaded latest Logitech driver for the Wave Keyboard & mouse. Things are better and it is working correctly 7/10 times. At times it still freezes but I hit cntr-alt-del and reclick on the new user and the switch works. I have no idea if this is the "school solution" but it works and that is more than I had in the past. One other noteworthy point on this problem is the USB receiver with this wireless system is infrared technology. Since that depends on line of sight, I have moved all components to where they are within inches of each other. Maybe that is making a difference. Bottom line is I think I will move on to Bluetooth technology and leave the infrared in the past. To me, Bluetooth is a much more stable system and if it can work for cell phones, I see no reason why a keyboard and mouse would be any different.
