Flash Player won't install

I have been trying to install Adobe Flash Player for every version for three years and always without any luck. If you've ever tried to use Adobe's FAQ and help sites you know how frustrating it is. I use the Firefox browser almost all the time and for some reason the plug-in for it and the player works very well. At the same time I get Internet Explorer telling me to install the Player but it always fails. I've tried un-installing and re-installing the @#%^&$%^* thing over and over without success.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've done all that Adobe has told me to do and it's always the same to remove/replace the program.

Howdy pseudalus and welcome to the forum.

So let me make sure I understand what's going on: Adobe Flash Player will install fine for Firefox but not for IE?

What version of IE are you running / trying to install to?
What error message are you getting?
What Service Pack is your Windows install on?
What is your favorite color?

OK, the last one probably won't help, but I'm still curious.

Well Ziggy, it's like this. . .

I'm using Windows Vista Home, Firefox 3.6, and IE 8.0, Service Pack 2 build 6002. When I try to install the FlashPlayer 10 it will download ok but then when trying to install it displays the error; FAILED TO REGISTER. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the flashplayer and again with no better luck.

When I tried to install FP9 I got this error message:
Error 1904.Module C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlashFlash 9f.ocx

When I went to Adobe's help site it listed about a gillion things to do but the first was to change read rights in the registry for the various Shockwave Flash listings. Trouble was that I was denied access. I ran regedit as an administrator even though I'm already the sole administrator on this machine and got the same denied access.

I even tried manually registering the file that was failing, Flash9f.ocx and that didn't help. Got any ideas?

My favorite color is green -- as in Ireland and not money 'cuz I more Irish than I have money.

Mike

I think there is an article about that kind of error in Adobe knowledge base, related to a protected entry in the Registry. There may be a fix from Adobe.

thanks everyone for the help. I [i:2v66xigz]think[/i:2v66xigz] I have already tried these things back when FP9 wouldn't install but I'll give it another shot.
