Adobe Flash Player asking the impossible (?)

Back again after a long, long time with a perplexing problem.

Of late, I've been notified that a particular site either wants to run the add-on "Adobe Flash Player" (This one, too) or requires the Player in order to view a video.  Now, I don't spend my time viewing videos all day but it's a PITA not to be able to view one that truly interests me.

I've downloaded Adobe Flash Player but it will not install.  I get a window telling me to disable IE8, Incredimail and Skype.  IE8 is no problem.  The other two, not so.  I've disabled both Incredimail and Skype "on startup" with no luck.  I've also searched the 'net for guidance on how to temporarily disable them but with no results.

Can anyone tell me how to temporarily disable - and then enable - these two programs such that I can finally get Adobe Flash Player to install?

A quick hello to Ozbloke (Jim) and a thank you for helping Shirley.

Hi Richard - To begin with, I believe Incredimail may be the main issue, Incredimail is not a terribly desirable program, it hooks deep into the system.

You may well need to totally uninstall Incredimail. If you absolutely, definitely cannot do without Incredimail, you can re-install it once Flash Player is up and running...  My advice would be to leave it uninstalled. :)

Cheers mate... Jim

Thanks, Jim.

I CAN uninstall Incredimail, but it is such a pain to install in the first place - my internet service via satellite with Hughesnet.

That still leaves Skype.  As I stated, I disabled it upon startup but to no avail.

I didn't mention Skype because I don't believe that is the problem Richard. I have Skype installed, not set to run at Startup, and Adobe Flash Player installed on my machine no problem. I don't however have Incredimail installed.

Try this: Open Internet Explorer and go to 'Manage add-ons' (Tools>Manage add-ons). Make sure you're in the 'Toolbars and Extension's section (accessible from the link in the left hand panel).

Now go through the list and disable anything to do with either Incredimail or Skype - highlight the entry (left click on it) and then click on the 'Disable' button at bottom right of the window.

Once you have done that, close Internet Explorer and see if Flash Player will now install.

In the end though, I believe if you want to install Flash Player, you are going to need to uninstall Incredimail (which would be, IMO, not a bad idea anyway :) )

Cheers mate... Jim
