Just tried out Jims tip on gaining easy access to win 8 administrative tools. Jim has apparently received a most useful copy of win 8 as my win 8.1 pro does not have the capability to go from settings to tiles. The tiles can be found in their adm directory in a view of the hard drive, but, to move them to the start or desktop areas appears to require moving each tile individually. So much for an easy task.

What am I missing? This disparity between version seem to be a major fault in win 8 .Wink

G'day, and welcome to the forum!

The guide I wrote and the screenshots were actually from Windows 8.1 Pro. Did you read the following bit from the instructions:

NOTE: You have to be in the Start Screen for this to work.

If you access Settings from within the desktop, the Tiles option will NOT be available. You have to access Settings from within the Start Screen.

Cheers... Jim

Thanks Jim. I did read that comment , but, I would not know which screen is which in win 8.1 pro. Further reason not to deal with it until something better comes along. In any event I appreciate you response and I do enjoy DAVES Computer Tips. You provide a useful source of news and learning.

Thanks again
Robert

Hey Robert,
With Windows 8.1 Pro. The screen with the tiles not icons is the Start screen. The screen with the icons that looks like older versions of Windows is known as the Desktop Screen. I hope this helps. I am rocking Windows 8 on 1 laptop (cannot be upgraded to 8.1 due to system specs.) & Windows 8.1 Pro on 4 systems. I love it!!
