I have 17 optional updates in W8.1 after update Tuesday. Does anybody have any idea what these updates are for, or has MS just been saving up updates for users.

No idea Daniel, and at this stage I can't be bothered going through all the associated knowledge base items to find out. For the moment I'm just ignoring them, at least until I can find time to check them all out.

I've been using 8 a little more recently just to keep it active for the free 10 upgrade and yes, there are a lot of updates.
However, on neither of my Win 8 installations do I get the Win 10 notification, even though both are totally kosher.

Make sure the KB3035583 update is installed. This is a recommended update in 8.1. Mine is hidden. Also you may want to Win Key+R and run WSReset.exe this will reset the store app. Have a good day, have to run.

Daniel - Martin Brinkmann over at GHacks has posted a list of all those optional updates: http://www.ghacks.net/2015/06/17/microsoft-releases-batch-of-non-security-patches-for-windows-june-2015/?_m=3n.0038.1642.dh0ao06kf3.1pec

Looks like the majority are to fix issues specific to certain machines (configurations).

Thanks Jim
When I am back on my 8.1 machine I will check those updates out through this link. I know explorer.exe has been acting crazy and it looks like at least one update is related to explorer.

Marc, you don't see the update notification because you're running a TechNet copy of Win 8.1.

Marc, would the TechNet copy be the W8 Enterprise Version?

Optional files are not necessary and there for personal choice. The explanations are often almost difficult to understand, so users are left wondering should I install? Well, I believe that if I have problems with the o/s, then maybe, but I resist as much much possible since it also might create a bigger problem elsewhere. IMHO, I opt out of the installation, Mindblower!

Marc, my comment was aimed at Daniel, who started the topic. Sorry for the confusion, Mindblower!

I had forgotten I even asked about the 17 updates. They were optional but they were also flagged as recommended updates. Went ahead and installed the updates with out any harm.

It's Win 8.1 Pro, but with a special license key. The update installs, but the notice isn't displayed.
