What did this almost 800MB update do for my computer? Except put a link to my power button by my account picture.
Yes, I agree. It's an awful lot of megabytes for seemingly little change. I think a lot of the update is relevant to smaller devices with touch screens and not so much for desktops.
The update also includes compatibility changes to support a wider range of hardware which wouldn't have any visible effect.

After playing a little, I found the biggest and best change is to be able to deactivate the hot corners and navigate with the start button back to the start page. I use very few apps but I can pin the ones I use to my taskbar, it is at least a step to make the desktop computer more compatible with windows 8. I believe the update had to be installed to be able to receive other updates for 8.1. At 756MB it was like a SP than a regular update, I can see why some computers had troubles downloading and installing the update. Daniel.
I actually like the hot corner menus, especially the Win-X menu. I think having the taskbar available in both environments is a nice touch, saves the odd click click here and there. I also like the addition of a title bar for open apps, the previous method for closing apps was a tad clumsy.

Jim, what is the Win-X menu? Is that the menu bar when you right click on the start button? Haven't found the title bar yet. Daniel.
Yep, that's the one Daniel. Also referred to as the Win-X menu because that is the key combination required to bring it up via the keyboard... Windows key plus the X key.
The title bar is displayed whenever you move the mouse cursor around the top of an open app.
