W7 Hidden Updates

I have no desire to replace W7 with W10 but somehow the W10 upgrade has tried to run twice and both times I have hidden the update. I have uninstalled and hidden the updates related to GWX and have set updates on the "never check for updates" will do a manual check from here on. If their is a registry hack that can be applied to this issue I sure would like to know it.
MS this has to stop I do not want my download quota used up with downloads I do not want.

Hi Dandl,

My experience is that once I have "hidden" an update, I have never been prompted to download or install it
You seem to have the necessary unwanted update (KB3035583) hidden, so I guess you should be safe from the sneaky Win 10 fairy.  (Not all fairies are good or welcome!)

Anyone know different about hiding an update?

Hi Jay
I posted this hoping someone might respond. As you can see their are three updates that need to be uninstalled in W7 if one has no desire to upgrade to W10.
The important thing here is to disable automatic updates because if one uninstalls the updates then MS will just download and install the updates again. I do a manual check for updates now and look them over very carefully.
The article that Jim has written explains this far better than I can along with a few other unwanted folders that MS is creating.

Hi again Dandl,

As I understand it, if an update is "hidden" then:

(a) It has not been installed (I don't believe you can hide an update after it has been installed) and

(b) It will not be installed even if you you have set Win 7 to automatically download and install updates.

So I think you have it covered and (at least for the time being) you are safe from the efforts of MS to corrupt your Win 7!

I guess if you are still doubtful, you could go to the "Installed Updates" screen, search search for your three undesirables and if you find them (I believe doubtful), uninstall them.  Then re-check that they are still hidden.

I agree about not allowing automatic updates, I want to know when MS is trying to junk my machine.

Ok Jay, here is another screenshot of hidden updates as of 9/20/2015, the third one from the bottom is the W10 install. MS is really pushing this W10 on to W7 and W8/8.1 users whether it is good or bad.
You are right, one cannot hide a installed update but one can uninstall the update and rerun update check and then hide the update. I think the big difference between auto update and manual is the download part. Some updates are auto installed when W7 is shut down if set in auto update mode.
Evidently the last three items on that hidden update list are not affiliated with or work like the KB updates. I do believe it is MS trying to install W10 on as many a PC that they can, whether one wants it or not.
Keep an eye on your updates and you might want to do a check for hidden folders.

If you want to disable the windows 10 install and remove the downloads from W7 WU then follow the instructions at this link http://www.howtogeek.com/228551/how-to-stop-windows-7-or-8-from-downloading-windows-10-automatically/ Hidden updates will look like this.
It worked for me but always backup the registry before applying this.
