I'm looking at the ToolWiz software. One option is "Super Explorer"
The screen shot says it can analyze the file system.........blah... & You can find all the hijacked/hidden files with this explorer.........OK... so what ????? I cannot see any way to do any "fixing"
s anyone else use this software?Toolwiz Care, okay mate. I had another look at Toolwiz Care and the 'Super Explorer' tool - as far as I can see it is merely a file explorer. I can understand the "hidden" files part but the "hi-jacked" bit has got me stumped. I wouldn't worry about it Terry.
If you suspect problems with hijacked files I suggest you run a scan with HijackThis: http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
Post the logfile here and we'll have a look at it for you.

I see nothing out of the ordinary in your hijack this report.
A tool like Super Explorer is a good way to spot rootkits, which is why I asked to begin with, for those who know what they are looking at.
The files preceded with a $ are basically super hidden and unavailable to a user through Explorer. This are important files and removing/changing the wrong one will leave you with an unbootable, maybe even unrecoverable, mess.
Rootkits basically create files with the $ prefix, which is why they are more difficult to detect (remember the Sony DRM fiasco?). The best way to handle this (if you think you are infected) is to look for a dedicated rootkit scanner.

I'd use the Sophos first as it is more consumer based and should be easier to deal with.
Hey Terry - Are we talking about those black squares over the icons? Looks like something or someone tried to change or get rid of the little shortcut arrows. Have you used any tweaking software of late - something with an option to change the shortcut arrows perhaps? If so, use that same software to undo the tweak.
If that's not it, try this:
Navigate to C:/Users/"Your Username"/AppData/Local
Locate and delete the file named IconCache.db
Restart the machine.
