Hi Myleswest
I do not have your particular cd but I do have an enhanced DVD on hand. I think the first thing to do is go into your windows 7 (Default Programs>Change AutoPlay Settings) mine are all set on (ask me every time) don't forget to click on the save button. If you do this then after the cd is recognized you should have a menu to choose from. If I were you I would close that menu and open your My Computer and find your cd drive. If the cd is recognized you can right click on it and bring up a menu. When I did mine I noticed (run enhanced content) was at the top of the list. When I opened that it wanted to install something called (Inter Actual Player) I didn't install the player because windows media player and media center will play the dvd. If you were playing this cd in windows xp then I would bet you were using something other than windows media player or windows xp media center edition. I don't have windows 7 installed but I ran my enhanced cd in both windows vista ultimate and windows 8.1 with the same results. Hope this helps. Daniel.

You are right Dandl,
I had installed that CD on Windows XP so long ago that I forgot all about that automatic install of 'Inter Actual Player' when I played the enhanced cd for the first time.
I tried to find it online but apparently they stopped support for it back in 2008.
And besides that, it says the old version it is not compatible with Windows 7.

Do you know if there a substitute / alternative I could use?
What a shame if the extra stuff can't be seen unless I use an old computer.

I refer to my earlier question - put forward in the second of my posts:

are you absolutely certain that the CD didn't originally require any additional installation, or link, or something, to play properly on the XP system?

You might try installing Inter Actual Player and use compatibility mode and see if you can make it work. The only other thing I know would be Quick Time Player or Real Player. I'm not a fan of either one but they might work. I downloaded windows media player classic for my windows xp and it will play my enhanced dvd. I bet this work with windows 7. Daniel.

I tried all suggestions but none work. Also tried WMC and Quick Time Player.
I want to thank Daves Computer Tips Forum for all your help in trying to solve the problem. Your all the best.

Hi Myles
Sorry none of the suggestions worked but when dealing with videos and video file extensions things can get a little crazy. I have never had a video file that would not play with VLC player in what ever version of windows. You do realize that the Inter Actual Player had to have the proper Video Decoder installed for it to work in XP. Out of curiosity I sure would like to know what video file extension that cd has on it. Daniel.

Daniel.....
LOL...I have no idea what I did but I want to tell you so maybe you can explain it to me! And also maybe this help someone else with a similar problem.

I wanted to make a copy of the Roswell CD just for the sake of having one.
So I loaded the CD, opened CD Burner XP, and when I clicked on copy / grab "all files", all of the data came up including all folders AND something called Roswell.exe.
Again, not knowing what I was doing, instead of running CD Burner XP I copied and pasted everything that was listed to my desktop.
When I double clicked on the Roswell.exe which was now on the desktop everything played just like it used to play on my old Windows XP. What did I do right?! LOL.
Question....If I copy all that stuff from the desktop and burn it to a fresh CD.....will it play like it should?

Hi myleswest
I am glad you finally got your cd to play in windows 7. I am no expert in this, just a user like yourself that likes for things to work, like a cd. As for as your ? I see nothing stopping you from burning another cd, unless there is some kind of DRM lock. I don't see it running any different than the original cd. When you say "everything played" just what does play other than the audio files. Can you do a screenshot of CD Burner XP and the files it found. Daniel.

Yes, those are the files that are on the original Roswell Soundtrack Enhanced CD.
But when I used the CD Burner XP to make a copy it was the files in the previous image I posted that showed and when I copied them to my desktop and clicked on the Roswell.exe all the animation and maps and data and music started to play.
Yep, I really know what I'm doing...LOL.

Got those files from a torrent download in my Linux VM. I can play the soundtracks with windows 8.1 but the only graphics I get is a .jpg image of the cover photo while the song plays. I'm not sure how your roswell.exe file is loading or what it is loading but you already have it on your hard drive so copy and paste and save it to a usb stick. Give yourself a pat on the back. Have a good night. Daniel.
