I often play games on my computer running Windows 7.
But now I've noticed since receiving some new Windows Updates that none of the games load anymore. When I try to start a game I sometimes get a pop up window that says "Library Not Registered". And other times there is just no response to clicking on the game desk top shortcut icon.
Although all of the games are meant to be played on Windows XP. I always got around that one way or another and they played fine. but not anymore.
Does anyone have an idea how to overcome this problem?

Hi, I usually always play the same games. Call of Duty 1 and 2, and most of the Medal of Honor games like Allied Assault and Pacific Assault.

Hi Marc, yes I do, but it seemed to make no difference.
If I used autoplay the game would not load at all and a pop up window would say something like "There are known compatibility issues with this game".
So what I always had to do was after placing the game disc in, I would click on "Computer" on desk top and then right click and open the game icon shown in the disc drive. Then double click on the game setup .exe file and install it that way.
That routine has always worked before .... and still does, I can install them that way but the games don't respond anymore to starting up. Since I received the windows updates.

Ok Myles I will try and give the steps I used to install one of my old games in W8.1
Now this is only for the install of the game. Once the game was installed I had to right click on the shortcut and set it to run in WXP SP2 compatibility. I also have to right click on the shortcut and open the file location and set the games rendering engine, which in my case is the Lithtech.exe, to run in WXP SP2 compatibility.
That is why I keep XP on one of my PC's. Hope this helps. Daniel.
Hi, I uninstalled the COD 2 from my computer so as to follow your instructions. But I could not get past the first step. When I checked the box "run in compatibility mode" and hit "apply" I got a pop up window-[image attached].
Then just out of curiosity I double left clicked on the 'set up .exe' file and the game loaded with no problem. It asked for the key code and all. But again, the game will not run at all when clicking on the desk top short cut.

Their are two things you can do in the Setup.exe properties box. You can either run the compatibility troubleshooter or you can check the run program in compatibility mode and manually set the OS to be compatible with. In my case I set it to WXP SP2.

I have tried both ways suggested but still nothing. I can download from the internet the very same games and play them with no problem though. Just cannot load any game from disc. Strange, eh?

I think it might be too much for me to figure out. I'm not that sharp and I don't want to mess up my computer. But thank you for all your help anyway.

Hey, this is really odd, I uninstalled the games from my PC. The Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games figuring that I can no longer play them. As I was putting them away in a box, I came across a 'Medal of Honor Pacific Assault' PC game that was not installed and so I figured I would try it just to see if it would play.
Installation was successful just like the other games were...BUT....this one plays fine!
Why would this game play and not the others?
I loaded the disc, then opened the disc drive, went to the set up folder and clicked on the set up .exe file. And that was it.

You were right Marc ! A friend was having the same problem and he suggested I go to Windows Update and uninstall... 'Security' update KB3086255 then restart. I did it and now the games play fine. Hope this post will help someone that might be having the same problem.
