Not sure if anyone can help me, but if I try to shut down or restart, if I click the button, it just doesn't do anything. It will hibernate though.

Hey veebee - Sounds as though a process might be hanging thus preventing Shutdown/Restart.

Could you please answer the following questions:

How long has this been happening - for a long time or just very recently?

Is it a desktop computer or laptop?

Have you changed any hardware or connected any new devices recently; new keyboard, mouse or anything.

Have you installed any new software recently or updated any drivers?

Once we have the answers to those questions we can then offer more definitive help/advice.

Cheers.....Jim

Hi Jim, it's a laptop running windows 7, and it's only just started happening. I haven't installed anything new, although most of my software updates are automatically installed.. hope you can help!

Hey Laveena - We could dig down through the processes and and try to isolate the culprit, but that is a tad complicated and time consuming. Seeing how this has just started very recently I am going to suggest that you try a System Restore.

Go to: [b:7d7j8yfi]Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore[/b:7d7j8yfi]. When the System Restore window opens you will see two options: "Recommended restore" and "Choose a different restore point". Please enable (click on) the second option, "Choose a different restore point" and then click[b:7d7j8yfi] Next[/b:7d7j8yfi].

In the next window you should see a list of recent restore points. Click on the option to "Show more restore points" and all available restore points will be listed. Select a restore point (click on it) that you are certain is dated before the problem began and then click [b:7d7j8yfi]Next[/b:7d7j8yfi].

You should now see a "Confirmation" window. Just click on the[b:7d7j8yfi] Finish[/b:7d7j8yfi] button at the bottom of the window and System Restore will then run.

When the system boots back up, all system files will be restored to how they were on the date you selected. Any personal data (such as; Documents, Pictures, Videos, etc.) which were added after the restore date will remain untouched.

Now try the Shutdown and Restart functions again. If they now work then all good. But if they still won't work, please report back here and we'll try other options.

Cheers.....Jim
