Could use some help/ advice.
Installed avast! 6 free on Win7 Home Premium 64bit - run the installer as administrator.
It installed in C:Program Files.
But, I have two issues:
1. Every time I boot the machine or log on, I get the UAC notification for "C:Program FilesAVAST SoftwareAVASTAvastUI.exe" /nogui.
2. In Task Manager, I see only AvastSvc.exe*32 and AvastUI.exe*32
I can solve #1 issue by following this [url=http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/67503-task-create-run-program-startup-log.html:i2a9oxob]guide[/url:i2a9oxob] and taking avast off the start up list (msconfig). But I think it should work without having to do this, right? I uninstalled avast in Safe Mode with the Avast uninstall tool and re-installed it, still no joy. Checked through the avast forum, but couldn't find anything related.
Any ideas?
About #2 issue, is Avast 64bit or not? According to their site and installation path, it is, but what's up with the processes?

Hey FD - I'm running Avast 6 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and do not have any issues.
Do you have the "No GUI boot" option enabled for some reason? [You will find that option by running [b:602z9txr]msconfig[/b:602z9txr] and clicking on the [b:602z9txr]Boot[/b:602z9txr] tab].
If that is not it; only other thing I can think of is that by installing the program as administrator, the Avast UI is now always requiring administrator approval to run. You would need to uninstall Avast again and then re-install normally [without using the "Run as Administrator" option for the installer].
Avast 6 runs perfectly on my 64-bit system so it must be fully compatible.

To answer your questions:
1. No, the "No GUI boot" box is not checked in msconfig>BOOT.
2. About the installation, already tried both ways, only difference:
- When installed normally, UAC pops up in yellow color asking for persmission to let avast run.
- When installed as admin, UAC pops up in blue color asking for persmission to let avast run.
I even tried a "repair" on avast's installation, still no joy.
I've read that some have the issue and some don't - don't you hate it when things seem to be completely random?

Only other thing I can suggest would be to check the UAC setting [or have you already done that?].
Control Panel>User Accounts>Change User Account Control settings. The slider should be set to default level:

Already checked, it's set to default level.
I guess I have to live with it and hope that the next version of avast will like my system better.

I would do an uninstall with Revo (to get any leftover registry keys) and re-install before I gave up.
Dave [and FD] - There is an uninstaller utility available from the Avast people that does a proper job of completely uninstalling. Probably even better than Revo. I used it once many moons ago when having troubles with Avast myself and it does do a terrific job.

Revo (at least the free version) is a bad idea when apps require a reboot and avast does. Do you think I should decline the reboot and let Revo do its thing before rebooting?
Another thing that bothers me is that avast is allegedly 64bit, but I can see it in Revo's (free) list of apps - and we all know what that means.

If you re-read my first post, you'll notice that I've been already there with no results. But now that I think about it, when I reinstalled it, the settings I had chosen the first time were still there, so maybe the uninstall wasn't successful - goes to prove avast doesn't like my system much.
Could you, please, check in Revo if you see avast listed?
I'm thinking of trying an uninstall with [url=http://www.appremover.com/:2x41t84y]AppRemover[/url:2x41t84y], which I've used successfully in the past but only with 32bit security apps.
Will post back, but don't hold back any other ideas you may have.

I would. Revo isn't going to delete anything that shouldn't be there, or wouldn't get deleted after the reboot anyway. However, a good backup in any situation like this is always a good idea.

If you want to tackle this manually it isn't too much of a headache. You'll have to manually remove any avast folders from the usual places (prog files, users/XXX/appdata, prog data). The registry part can be tedious as there aren't many programs available for vista/win7 that handle the registry on anything but a per key level. I used to use a free program called RegCool in XP and it appears he's written a new shareware version called [url=http://www.kurtzimmermann.com/regcoolpro_e.html:2mgexydg]RegCool Pro[/url:2mgexydg], which works with anything win2000 or higher. I would download the trial and see what you can get. The cool thing about it is you can search for a term (i.e., avast) and it will return all the results from the registry and you can interact (i.e., delete) them all at once without having to hit F3 a billion times to work your way through the entire registry.

This must be the second missunderstanding I get myself in since I first registered here due to poor language use - sorry, English is not my native language.
Now, to put it in as plain as possible English.
Not only did I understand that it was meant in humor, I also thought it to be good humor. I also appreciate the affection note to it - that was what actually [u:xpu57hu6]did[/u:xpu57hu6] bring images of being "young & cute" to mind (which is almost as good as being young & cute in reality). That's what I [b:xpu57hu6]thought[/b:xpu57hu6] I communicated (the smiley was meant as irony to myself since it's been a couple of decades I came of age).
So dear Dave, I'm not offended in a way and there's absolutely no problem if you keep calling me "Dutchy".
I suspect I'll have plenty of chances to try out all possible ways to uninstall & reinstall avast.

Extremely happy to report that I managed to solve the situation.
Used AppRemover to uninstall Avast and then RegCool Pro to clear all traces from the registry.
Re-installed Avast normal (no admin rights), adjusted the settings to my liking and rebooted a couple of time just to make sure it does work properly. And it does, no more UAC pop-ups!!
Only glitch (if you can call it that) is that the first defs update took extremely long with the progress bar not filling up, but the next one worked fine.
Talking about the settings, I didn't install the WebRep addon, as, being community based, it's still in a very early stage and the scoring is, IMHO, not reliable.
BTW, Dave, RegCool worked great - I didn't even install it, jus extracted it with WinRAR. I appreciated the option to set a time period for entries to look for when doing the search - the lack of dates always bugged me with the regular MS editor.
You did mention RegCool in XP and I remember reading about it in your articles on the registry, but that link to MajorGeeks is dead. So, two questions:
1. Was that a free version?
2. Is it still available anywhere? I found a v.3.704 Beta on Softpedia, is that the one?

The softpedia link is the final free version I believe, but doesn't support vista or win7 very will, and 64bit is a no go.
