Hey, Y'all -

My wife, Shirley, insists that her PC has been "hacked". Among other things, she describes a pop-up that shows her IP address. She will have to describe the several maladies, but, is there anything up front that will head her in the right direction?

Richard

Hi Richard - Nice to hear from you again mate.

In order to properly diagnose a probable cause we would need view a screenshot of the popup message, or a description of exactly what it says.

In the meantime; the first thing I would suggest is to check for possible malware. If you don't already have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free installed on Shirley's machine, download here: https://www.malwarebytes.org/ (click the"Free Version Download" button).

Install the software and then perform a full scan... (it's called a "Threat Scan" in the latest version).

I'm pretty sure it will find malware on the machine. If not, get back to us with a screenshot of the popup or let us know exactly what it says... verbatim.

Cheers... Jim

Hello Jim, I am sorry I have been so long getting back to you. I don't know if Richard has told you or not but our house burned to the ground June 14, 2013. Also before that Dec 6, 2011 I had lung cancer and was in the hospital for 3 months. Ever since then there has been one thing after another that has been stressing us out and pulling us down. It would take almost a book to write everything that has been going on but I wanted to let you know why I have not felt like answering your post and thanking you. One of the things is that Richard's cardiologist ran a test a few months ago and found that his heart is only functioning at 18 percent. He has him on medication for it and he had another test run later and it had raised to 25 percent then had another test done after that and it had dropped to 20 percent. A couple of weeks ago they ran another test and he was suppose to go back for the results this past Monday but had what they call a mini stroke so was unable to keep the appointment because he was in the hospital from Sat till Mon. He has an appointment this Wed with the Neurologist. I did follow your advise and downloaded the malware bytes thing you suggested and it showed over 1500 items needing taken care of. It cleaned it all and afterwards I purchased the malware bytes/ anti malware but did not stop the things that were going on. A long time ago Richard had purchased a disc and upgraded his computer to Windows 7 professional so because I was having so much problems with my computer he took my computer to someone and had mine upgraded also. It stopped all of those problems but now I can not download any of the Adobe things and my printer and scanner will print and will scan but when I open it, it will not be in pdf form and when I try to download anything Adobe it fails and says I have 11 missing drivers. Since the fire I have been saving everything on One Drive but now I can not do that because it won't work correctly. Dell has a lot of drivers I can download free but there are so many I have no idea which ones I need to download. My computer is the same as Richards XPS 7000 Windows 7-64 Professional.
