BSOD!!

Strange thing this morning. Got up (no, that's not the strange bit), went to the computer and was confronted by the dreaded BSOD.

Nothing has been changed over the past week or two, last Windows updates were 2 days ago. Checked through Device Manager and no error icons displayed.

Very weird coz I haven't installed or connected anything new.

Stop code was 0X0000001E, which is pretty generic.

Decided to just wait it out out and see if it happens again. Is there anything else I should be checking? Anything you know which might cause a BSOD out of the blue like this (if you'll pardon the pun)?

<Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit>

Cheers.....Jim

pixies.

The dreaded pixie makes its home in stable, working, livable computers where it roosts until resources are consumed. These pixies thrive on high CPU, high RAM, and above all else, Windows. Panic now. The only way to defeat the dreaded pixie is to unleash a DBAN on the---

Wait, that was a dream I had last night.

Did the BSOD list a driver name? This could be nothing or it could be indicative of component failure. Any thunderstorms last night?

Pixies, or maybe Gremlins even?

No and no. Nothing about any driver, just the stop error code and then another string of numbers and letters as long as your arm. Zero storms.

Here's a copy of the crash report:

Also, I went to [b:3oyt69yw]Action Center>Maintenance[/b:3oyt69yw], clicked on 'Check for Solutions' and ended up with this in Archived Messages:
[quote:3oyt69yw]Address a problem with Intel Active Management Technology - Status = Solution applied.[/quote:3oyt69yw]

Expanding on that gets me this:
[quote:3oyt69yw]Your version of Intel Active Management Technology isn't compatible with this version of Windows[/quote:3oyt69yw]
Dunno what that's all about. Had the same version of Windows installed on the same machine (no hardware changes) for over 12 months!!

Anyway, been using the computer on and off all day today and no repeat, so marking it down as a one off........fingers crossed.

Thanks for the reply mate,

Cheers.....Jim

That's strange. I've been running Intel AMT on Windows 7 64 bit for almost a year now without a problem.

Hopefully it stops. (it did say solution applied) but at least Windows pointed you in the right direction...

Yes, it's a strange one alright mate.

As you say, Windows did point me in the right direction....I just wonder why it would take over 12 months to come to light, and with no problem in the interim.

Oh well!!

I don't know what kind of computer you have, but based on this post[/url:1trxxxv8] from Lenovo it appears that the AMT was updated recently. If it auto updated, it could certainly have caused the problem.

But, as mentioned, a wait and see attitude is probably best at this point.

Thanks for the link Zig. My machine is not a Lenovo, it was custom built.

After reading up on Intel AMT, I'm not even sure why I would need it or even if I do.

Yes, I'm definitely going to wait and see but if it plays up again it may be best to simply uninstall it?

I am assuming it would have something to do with this entry in the list of installed Programs and Features?

Based on what I found on wikipedia[/url:1ci7jy2t], i would agree that it's not needed for your current setup. (or most people's for that matter)
