I do not use onedrive nor do I intend to use onedrive!!!! Mut MS seems to think I am in need of a
onedrive folder in my user profile. Is there any way to keep MS from installing this folder?
I have uninstalled onedrive and the onedrive folder, but the folder is created again.

Hi Dan,

You probably still have OneDrive linked to your PC.

Here are some instructions to unlink and uninstall OneDrive:

HI Richard
I have unlinked, uninstalled and when I reboot the onedrive folder is back in my user profile.
There has to be some kind of registry entry, making this to happen!!! Or is it MS, just shoving
it down our throats, whether one wants onedrive or not?

Hi Dan,

The presence of the OneDrive folder is of no real consequence. It won't do anything except use up a paltry bit of drive space.

If OneDrive is uninstalled, that should be your only concern if you don't want it running on your system.

You can check Task Manager to see if OneDrive is running; if so, then it has not been uninstalled.

If OneDrive is still installed, it will run automatically when Windows boots. This behavior can be disabled under the Startup tab in the Task Manager.

Also, if it is still installed, you can open its Settings menu and look for a list of folders that it monitors by default. Untick all those checkboxes.

I use OneDrive to back up about 20GB of images, program installers, and videos. So, I've never had the problems you describe. I only run it once a week; the rest of the time it is disabled.

Of course, MS wants you to use it, but there is nothing stopping you from disabling it.

HTH,
Richard

After doing everything, I knew to do, with my Microsoft account, I finally just logged in with my
local account, uninstalled onedrive and the onedrive folder, I rebooted and the onedrive folder
was reinstalled. I just opened the onedrive folder properties, and clicked on hidden. The folder
is not being synced, but it is at least out of my site.
Will, in the future, put Linux on this machine and just use Windows on a need-to-basis.
Thanks for your help. Daniel!!!

Hi Dan,

In a way, I am surprised that the folder's very presence should irritate you so much but then, I have no room to talk. Some little things of no consequence are enough to make me irritable, too.

See you in Linux land someday, 😉

MS has no right to install folders I do not need or want. I may use W11, but the
PC is still mine!!!

It will be running either Gentoo or Debian in the near future!!!

My-User-Profile.pngImage Enlarger

After unlinking and uninstalling onedrive I moved all my folders and files to my data drive. I then
hid all folders related to onedrive, renamed my folders and pasted the folders into my user profile.
Not perfect, but I do not have files being synced into other folders. Had to rename the folders, since
W11 would not let me use the default names.
