Further to discussions in other threads re Windows 10 activation, Microsoft has now published an explanation of the process.
The process for upgraded systems is now known as "digital entitlement" and is no longer associated with any sort of product key. Instead, activation is tied to the device (as we suspected).
Has anyone seen these three folders (marked in red) under Program Data. I know one is tied to the activation and the two USO folders are being used by W10 WU.

Judging by the log files looks to be Windows Update logs containing time of check, whether the connection is metered, and whether a reboot was required.

That much I figured out but it was the regid file that has me wondering and notice the date it was modified. BTW what is meant by a "metered connection"?
