I am an elderly 74yo non-tech person.
My question:
I use only the latest version of Firefox myself, but my system has:
Chrome,
Internet Explorer,
MS Edge,
maybe others too but I CONSCIOUSLY only use Firefox.
Which of those others can I uninstall and are there any disadvantages to doing that?
Your help appreciated.
Hey Peter,
You can uninstall all but Edge and Internet Explorer. Every other browser can safely be uninstalled. You can disable Internet Explorer, which would be a good idea because it's no longer supported. Follow this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-remove-internet-explorer-11-windows-10
No, no disadvantages.
Thanks so much Jim,
I disabled Internet Explorer as you suggested.
May I ask clarification on Chrome Browser?
From what I read in your post it can be safely uninstalled as per your quote "Every other browser can safely uninstalled."
I thought maybe I read that wrong and was not sure what to do with Chrome. How does removing Chrome as a browser affect "Google" search actions?
I usually use Duckduck for searches but sometimes do use Google as well.
I just don't want to stuff anything up by me misunderstanding, and Chrome can be so "invasive".
Can you help this Kiwi just one more time. Many thanks.
Hey Peter.
Google Chrome Browser and Google search engine are two entirely separate entities. You can uninstall the Chrome browser and it will not effect using Google search.
The browser is what's used to connect to the world wide web, the search engine is what's used to search the world wide web. You can use Google search in Edge, or any browser, no problem.
So, yes, you can safely uninstall the Chrome browser without any ill effects.
Always happy to help Peter, no problem.
