I currently have Windows 8.1 installed on two PCs which are not on partitions of other system drives, but physically separate.
Ideally, I'd like to put 10 on an SSD on each machine, but since it will be an upgrade path and not an ISO (I may be wrong), I wonder how one would go about that?
Reinstall 8 on the new SSD and then upgrade to 10? This would involve proving that I wasn't putting 8 on as an entirely new install, but a transfer, I would imagine.

Transferring (or migrating) an operating system from one hard drive to another does not require re-activation Marc, same goes for HDD to SSD.

There's no doubt that Windows 10 will be delivered as an in-OS upgrade, either via Windows Update or the store. So yes, migrate Win8 over to SSD and then upgrade to 10 from there.

Thanks Jim.
I'm sure you mentioned this in one of your articles and it's good to know.

Let's see,
W8 to W8.1/1.1 to W10.
If you reset your PC then you are right back in W8, unless MS provides a working product key for W10. I doubt that will happen, especially if the upgrade comes through the Windows Store.
I see another W8 scenario shaping up for a lot of users. Not everyone will like W10 and the only option for going back may be to reformat and start over.
Why do I say this? I have played with the W10TP a couple of times, and to be honest I liked the earlier builds better than the more recent builds.W7-Upgrade-Capture.PNGImage Enlarger

Apparently we'll be able to do do a clean install after the free upgrade, but it's not clear how.
An .iso would be nice.

This came off that same techspot web site. Would have to agree with some of the comment.
Since I am not really interested in W10, I think I will wait and see how MS addresses the W10 Tech Previews.

Daniel, I've been running previews since Vista and I'm not aware of being able to use a preview as an upgrade path even if you do have a qualifying OS installed on the same PC. It would make sense and save a lot of damn hassle, to be sure.

As far as writing a review of the preview, watch this space.

I hope that is a yes on the tech preview article. Will be waiting to hear from you. Just be honest and not swayed with or by Almighty MS.
