I have been reading the topics , but most of them seem to go over my head.
Can you please tell me in simple English ( I am rather challenged) if I should change to Windows 10. It is already downloaded and ready to install but I am having cold feet.

I have a 3 year old dell laptop with windows 7 Home version, Ram is 4 GB.

1. I understand you can setup a dual boot
Does it do that automatically or I have to set it ? If later how do I do it?

2. I have done a system backup by AOMEI program . Is that sufficient to roll back? My external drive did not have enough space so I have copied and saved all my other data separately.

3. I have Office 2007 , will it continue to work? What about my other installed programs like Paint, and security suites? I have neither any intention nor resources to spend on new supplementary programs.

4. In one of the posts i read Firefox was giving problem. What about Chrome ? would I have to uninstall Firefox?

Please bear with me I would really appreciate simple answers. Thanks in advance.

Hi shobha, great to hear from you again.

1. You cannot setup a dual boot because you are upgrading from one operating system to another. In other words, you are REPLACING Windows 7 with Windows 10

2. Yes, an image created by Aomei Backupper is great if you decide you want to roll back. Windows 10 also provides its own "rollback" feature where you can return to the old (original) operating system. However, that option is only available for 30 days after upgrading.

3. Yes, Office 2007 will continue to work, as will most, if not all, of your existing installed programs. If you are worried about a specific program or programs, check out this article: https://davescomputertips.com/find-out-if-your-favorite-programsgames-will-run-on-windows-10/

4. I am having no problems running Firefox in Windows 10 and I haven't seen any reports of issues. Chrome will also run fine in Windows 10. As will most software.

All that said; I would suggest holding off for a couple more months. I believe Microsoft is planning a fairly substantial update to Windows in 10 late October, wait until after that and then upgrade. You have until 29th July 2016 to upgrade for free.

I would have to agree with Jim's assessments here. I would also add that you have a three yr old laptop. Now in my humble opinion W7 will probably outlive your laptop and if you are happy with W7 then wait for the upgrade.
