Play exit sound with Windows 10?

I gave up trying to get my Win-10 insiders preview copy to play the 'exit sound' assuming due to the low specs on my laptop.

I finally upgraded my main Win-7 high spec desktop last month and the 'exit sound' does not play either.

I changed the registry to show 'exit windows' in the sounds dialog box and it will play with the test button.

This is the case with both computers.

I have searched for an answer to this and I am not the only one trying to fix this.

Why has this setting been removed.

Does a fix for this exist?

I cannot be the only one of a few that misses this feature.

Hi, and welcome to the DCT Forum.

No idea why MS removed this setting, and I concur, the common solutions posted for this issue - turn off Fast Start and suggested registry changes - do not work.

A couple of other suggested workarounds include creating a script combining calling up a sound with the shutdown command and then creating a desktop shortcut to same. Or creating a new task in Task Scheduler to play a sound at shutdown, but no-one seems quite sure of what the trigger should be.

I haven't experimented with either of those suggestions but, if it was that easy, surely some coder/software developer would have created a 3rd party solution by now, especially considering the demand.

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to natively re-instate the shutdown sound and, at this point in time, no third party solution available.

If you come across a working solution during your travels, please let us know.

Cheers... Jim

Been doing a little research on this topic. The link I have provided just shows what steps are needed in order to get W10 to even put the Windows Exit, Windows Logoff and Windows Logon in the sounds entry box. I did modify the ExcludeFromCPL registry entry from 1 to 0 in order to get the above entries in sounds.
I do get a W7 startup sound when restarting W10 but unlike W7 their is no Logoff or Logon or Windows Exit sound when either the Shutdown or Sign Out is ticked in W10.
My thinking is that some engineer at Microsoft just decided that the link between the Shutdown and Sign Out sounds and Windows Media Player was no longer needed.
All we need to do now is to find the W7 registry key that triggers this link and incorporate it into W10. Since I usually start my PC with the speakers off, it might not be worth it.

This is what I did with windows 7,never had windows 8:

I also posted this at the microsoft site and got a reply telling me how to change the registry so it shows in the sounds dialog box, and that was all, which was no help.
