I am having trouble getting my Dell laptop to the same speed with an ethernet cable the same as wifi.Wifi comes in at 200mbps but as soon as I connect ethernet cable I can't get over 80 or 90 mbps.I've changed cables and went through a lot of tweaks froom google search but to no availe.I know that has to be with the laptop.Device is within 10 feet of modem router.Spectrum is my provider and sent a tech out and everything is fine. Can my laptop restrict speed?Could appreciate any help.

Hello Leeper. From my understanding, using an ethernet cable increases the speed, not the other way around. How do you measure your speed, Mindblower!

I agree with MB, ethernet should always be faster than wifi. That said, how old is your equipment?

1) How old is the laptop? Age can make a big difference here, with older network cards limited in speed compared to newer cards.
2) How old is the modem/router you are using? Modern routers are capable of higher LAN speeds than older routers.

Check the specs for both your network card and router- ethernet speed should be 1000 Mbps (or 1.0 Gbps), if showing 100 Mbps then that will be the problem.
