Worked fine. So, how do I get various settings that call a browser to call EDGE instead of CHROME?

Going into Settings I cannot right-click on things like “Manage my voice data that’s stored in the cloud with my Microsoft account” and get a link that I can manually take to EDGE.

I really do not want EDGE to be my default browser. It sucks! ?

Hi Tom,

As far as I know, none of the links in the Settings App can be right-clicked to any avail.

Various browser default settings can be changed in the Settings App by following this path:

Settings-->Apps-->Default Apps

Once there, click on Choose default apps by file type

Now the hard part: You will have to drill down through all the file types that might apply to browsers. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them. Many will be HTML, or HTM, but there are many more and it is not always clear which ones you need to focus on. Even PDF files will, by default, open in many browsers, as will many image formats. It can be a mini nightmare to get it all straight.

To give you an inkling of what I'm talking about, if you choose to open all HTML files with Chrome, then most web sites will be opened with Chrome. However, some links that point to HTM files may open with the default Edge browser.

There is effectively no way to predict this behavior without experimentation.

Sorry for the bad news, but that's all I've got for the moment. If you'd like my opinion, I think Chrome sucks and Edge is pretty darn good. Just my opinion.

Hope this helps,
Richard

Hi Tom,

Being on the wrong side of 60 (65) myself, I can sympathize with your resistance to change.

FYI, I have Waterfox set as my default browser. There are times, however, that it simply won't render a page properly. (This may be due to one of the many plug-ins I have installed.) This has happened on the very page in question.

In any case, when this happens, I copy the URL in the Address Bar and open it in Edge. Yes, it is a nuisance, but at least I can get on with browsing and finally see the page I want to see-- rendered properly, too.

Set Chrome as your default browser (if that is your wish), and do as I do when problems arise: Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.

Sometimes, a bit of change is necessary after all, even for us old-timers 😉

I have been running IE11 as my W10 default browser along with Firefox and everything works just fine. I hardly ever run Edge and I really do not like Chrome.
Now my wife uses Edge on Her machine but IE11 is set for the default browser.
I used Control Panel/Default Programs to set my default settings.
