Social networks don't necessarily have to have an online presence. Honestly, social networking theory had its beginnings way before the internet existed. Even without facebook, twitter, instagram... there existed networks within societies that could regulate the flow of information, change the meaning of information and influence behavior.

Some examples are Book Discussion groups that met at a local library or a coffeehouse.

Remember CB Radios? They weren't just for truckers. I had a CB handle I was known as "OhioFlash". Such fond memories of saying "breaker, breaker what's your 20?" We would eavsdrop on the truckers and just converse with others on the radio.

So what becomes of these old school networks and what happens to them as a result of new media networks?

Does the center of influence change because of online social networking?

I so want to ask how you got that handle!

My dad went to see Smokey and the Bandit, after which he was hooked. CB's in all the cars and a big base station, with huge antenna on a tower, at the house.

I hate to disappoint. Though the answer to my CB Handle is off topic. Let's just say I grew up close to Interstate 71. As teens we used to run up the hill to 71 when playing truth or dare and Moon random people. Hence the CB Handle: OHIOFLASH.

There ya go Dave!
