I just got Outlook 2010 expecting it to replace the functionality that Windows Mail has in my Vista partition, in my w7 partition. I have set up a couple-dozen accounts in Windows Mail. I can hit Send/Receive in Windows Mail and check all accounts at once, or use the dropdown to choose individual accounts. I can send an email using any one of the accounts as the From.

Windows Mail is no longer officialy available on w7. I ended up doing the workaround of copying my Vista Windows Mail install and replacing the files in the w7 install. Works fine, but I'm a little worried about an update killing it. If I can set up Outlook like Windows Mail, with multiple accounts in one Profile, that would solve the problem.

Any ideas?

Hey Rex - What's the matter with Windows Live Mail??

I used Windows Mail in Vista for exactly the same reasons you describe. When I installed Windows 7 (in a dual boot system) I just downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail to that OS. It's very similar....certainly has all the exact same facilities for handling multiple email accounts.

Cheers....Jim

I did consider that. I installed Win Live Mail on Vista awhile back, but felt it may be doing more data exchanging than I asked (I was worried about it phoning home info from my computer or about email content to MS). Maybe this fear is unfounded.

Hey Rex - Yes mate, I do believe your fears may indeed be unfounded; I have a two way firewall installed (Online Armor) and have never once received any messages about Live Mail (nor Win Mail) phoning home. Nor have I ever read any reports/complaints of this happening.

I forgot to add in my initial post; I was so pleased with Windows Live Mail I actually downloaded and installed it to my Vista OS as well. I no longer use Windows Mail at all.

Hope that helps mate,
Cheers....Jim
