Hey Guys - How do you feel about installed software [i:3oqamj43]insisting[/i:3oqamj43] you do something in a certain way?? I came across this little beauty this morning.

I do not use any IM/chat software but the dearly beloved better half has had Windows Live Messenger installed on her machine so she can chat occasionally to the daughters who live in a different city. I am not in charge of much around our house but I seem to have inherited the responsibility for keeping the cook's computer up to date. Anyway, I was updating some things and decided to open up Messenger and see who was online, I hit the 'sign in button' and immediately got a message that I [i:3oqamj43][b:3oqamj43]must[/b:3oqamj43][/i:3oqamj43] update to the latest version before being allowed to proceed.

MUST!!!!!! Now that's some pretty strong language right there. I wasn't allowed to connect or do anything further with the program until I agreed to install the updated version. What a bl**dy cheek!!!!!!!

Imagine if all software adopted that same policy! Now I know most updates/newer versions are good but there have been occasions where I have liked and preferred the older product and reckon I should have the choice whether I want to keep or replace it....it's called freedom of choice Mr. Messenger!!!!!!! LOL

Cheers all......old and cranky, getting older and crankier....JIM

....now you know why I don't use MSN Messenger.

Now to go figure out why my 5 year old isn't asleep despite going to bed 4 hours ago...

I could see this in certain instances. OK, only one instance - a major security flaw.

Maybe you should get the other parties to install Skype (any buy a webcam). Then she can chat and msg, and video conference.

Only two words come to mind when I'm put into the MUST situation. "Oh! Really" And you thought something different (admit it)

It's ass holes like that (the programmers) who create the dread in using software. IMHO, the person who authorized (not the silly ninny who wrote those words) and approved need to be tared and feathered. Just punishment (maybe to lame), Mindblower!

Ha! I haven't installed Messenger on a machine in years. In fact, I've taken it [i:3nwdnlfc]off[/i:3nwdnlfc] new machines when it's pre-installed. Something similar happened today today on a friend's machine. I was going to open an mp3 file she had in Windows Media Player. The old right-click>open with command brought up a window that stated I'd have to validate Windows before installing WMP 11. @&#!!!!!! It's a legal OS and I didn't [i:3nwdnlfc]want[/i:3nwdnlfc] to install WMP 11. Thinking probably the same phrases you did, I opened the file in KMPlayer.
