I'm having the strangest thing happen with my computer (Windows 7) or browser (Firefox 27.0) ... When I click a link to open a new website (I don't like TABS and don't use them), the new page opens then it immediately goes back to the previous page! The new page is still 'open' but I have to click it to view it. What is causing this? The only thing I've found that stops this action is when the newly opened page begins to load I click on it somewhere. Then it stays open for me to view it. ODD.

This doesn't happen with my Nexus tablet.

Any ideas?

Thanks as always!

Marci

Hi Marci - Sorry nobody has replied here sooner mate, I've been away on a break myself (well earned too I might add https://davescomputertips.com/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif)

I'm using Firefox 27 in Windows 7 and I changed my settings around but couldn't replicate your issue. A lot of these types of issues can be caused by add-ons, please try running Firefox in no add-on mode: click Help and then select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If the issue disappears we then know it is being caused by one of your add-ons.

Cheers... Jim

It's OK, Jim, you surely do deserve a break! https://davescomputertips.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Well, I'll be ... I did what you said and it did NOT 'flash back'!

Please now what? Do I have to go through all my add-ons one at a time to find the bad guy? OY!

Oh no ... how do I open Firefox with add-ons ENABLED again???

I'm afraid so Marci. Disable all of them. Then start re-enabling one at a time until you find the culprit.

Just close the browser and next time you run Firefox it should be back with all add-ons enabled again.

Hi Jim,

Just an update. I closed the browser as you and others suggested but it did NOT revert the add-ons back on.

SO I removed all the add-ons and added them back one at a time, then disabled each one at a time & closed Firefox and re-opened it for each one.

I only have six add-ons and went through them all. Firefox is still losing focus (I know how it feels!) and flipping back to previous pages. I don't like using TABs but maybe trying that would stop this? Just a thought. At any rate, I'll keep fiddling with it.

Thanks again 'mate' for all your help! ;)

Marci, sounds like your Firefox user profile might be corrupted. This is not an uncommon occurrence and typical of the type of errant behavior you've described.

If you are unable to get Firefox to behave itself get back to me and we can try setting up a new profile for you.

Cheers mate... Jim
