To Steve_K. Took my reply and comments here since this topic diverts from the blog title.

I too grew up with MSDOS, from version 3. Was still using MSDOS on a 486 till late last year. Totally bypassed Windows 3.1, and it was XP which held my attention for many years. While many where jumping to the next new operating, I held back because there was nothing wrong with XP (the longest running operating system in Microsoft history). With only a short time prior to XP's demise, I landed onto Windows 8. It had certain flaws, till 8.1 cleared them. It is always the users who gripe when something newer comes along and they must start all over learning the new system. As for Windows 10, it had many bugs at the beginning, and I suffered (endured) for six long months. It was free at that time (who could resist such an offer), so I truly wanted to love the new system with its flaws. Being told it was something we needed to overcome did not rest well with me. That age old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" meaning if something is working adequately well, leave it alone, or there is no need to upgrade. Windows 10 supports many extra features which are of no useful interest for me (sort of forcing them down my throat). I prefer using third party addons to keep 8.1 humming along nicely.

Now, according to Microsoft, Windows 8.1 support (end of life) is January 10, 2023, allowing me and other Windows 8.1 users over 3 more happy years. Who knows, maybe by then Windows 10 will improve (but I sincerely doubt it).

As for "I'm always suspicious when someone writes "M$."", believe it stands for the all mighty and powerful (money grubbing etc...), Mindblower!
