Hi,

I have been an Apple iPod user for the longest time, I got one of the first generation iPod nano's, a 1GB, and was thrilled with it. The battery started to go on it and so I bought a 30GB iPod video, and then shortly after that, upgraded to an 8GB iPod Touch. However, I started to get annoyed with using iTunes in Windows. An application that is designed for use in OSX is not going to work as well in Windows as one that is designed to work in Windows. I also tried some third party iPod managers but found them to be worse than iTunes, they didn't work as well as I thought they would and caused me a lot of trouble. I ended up getting a good deal selling my iPod Touch and my Video and so I sold them and bought a Creative Zen. It's only a 4GB player but it's the best I've ever owned, it works perfectly through Windows Media Player or by simply dragging and dropping files in Windows Explorer. I tried out the Sandisk Sansa but really didn't like how clunky it was and how flimsy it felt in my hands.

I'm just trying to start a discussion on this, see what people use and have used, what they like and don't like.

I've only used two MP3 players: my phone, and a Dell DJ Ditty.

Frankly, I don't care for either of them. I listen to talk radio anyway.

Anything but Apple. It's pretty ridiculous to hamper a cool device like the ipod by tying it down to a specific format and software. That said, I have a Sandisk Sansa and I like it. 4GB with a MicroSD slot so I can add more storage.

My music collection is stored in mp3 format @ 192Kbps.

LoL.

All of my digital music is held over from the Napster days.

I think that was the last time I bought a CD too...

Dell DJ Ditty? What's that?

And iPods are just fine in a Mac which has iTunes as the default media player, but on a PC (Windows or Linux), they are not useful at all.

Dell DJ Ditty is Dell's entrance with the MP3 player.

It's not a very good MP3 player, but it tires. The buttons are too small, especially if you have big hands like I do.

I didn't even know that Dell was in that market. You learn something new every day! I have never liked players like that. They're small and easy to carry around but I like ones with more of an interface, like an iPod (but it has other problems) or a Sansa or a Zen or whatever else, I find it too annoying to have just one or two scrolling lines of text on something like the Dell or whatever other manufacturers.

For someone like me who's used to a player with an interface it's odd, but does it take a lot of getting used to, how easy is it to find individual songs and stuff on something like that?

Um, it's easy to find songs, you just fast forward til you find the one you want.

YEah, it's lame and basic, but it was free, so it's hard to complain too much.

Yeah, OK, if it's free that's fine! But I have enough songs that it would become really annoying, I prefer an interface. Oh well, either way, iPods are worse than your Dell or my Zen!

Good morning,
I'm more illiterate than literate, but, use my PC as a stereo don't own an iPod. My experience has been that iTunes has superior playback quality to Windows Media Player. I work through XP SP2 (no problems because of the difference in MAC and XP; have several players, including Cakewalk Pyro. I hope to use CP to introduce some old tapes to my hard drive when I retire in four weeks and pick up some extra time.
I don't believe I can tell you how much I've benefitted from your tips and forum information. Usually, it's because you think about learners like me, when you instruct and share with your audience. Many thanks, I try to send a modest donation at the end of each year. Got a little confused when we transitioned from Langa List, but think we're sorted out now. Olde jim . . Hey, you're welcome! Glad to have you here! One question though, what do you like about iTunes that you don't like about Windows Media Player? Other than the ability to manage an iPod (which you said you don't have), I personally find WMP to be better in every aspect... that's just my opinion but I seem to find that same opinion among a lot of other people. Many people who run iTunes run it just because of the iPod ability. You're probably the first person that I have heard that prefers iTunes over WMP and doesn't own an iPod! So I'm just curious, not trying to shoot down your opinion, I'm just curious why you prefer it.
