Hello,
Some program or game will open the browser to their home pages when closing down the program. How can I stop it from opening the browser?

Hi Joel,

You need to know which part of the program or game is calling the browser and deny it access to the Internet.

Could you please provite an example of a program and a game?

Joel,
There are two ways a program can "call" a website (forcing your browser to open). One is to have the function hardcoded into the program. The other is to call a URL shortcut. They usually do this to prompt you to buy the game or download additional games from them. If it is hardcoded into the program there is little you can do, other than purchase the program or learn to live with the annoyance.

How do you know which method is used? Look in the folder the program/game is installed it for files ending in url, htm, or html. If you are unsure where the program is installed simply right click the program's shortcut icon and select "properties". If you find file(s) with the extension url, htm, or html simply delete them and run the program to see if it runs correctly. If it does the problem is fixed. If not you will need to restore the file(s) from the Recycle Bin. If you aren't able to locate any of these files in the program's folder it is probably hardcoded into the program.

If the request is hardcoded your only option is to follow the Dutchman's advice and disallow the program internet access using a firewall.
