I'm wondering if anyone at DCT knows a work-around for this?
Basically, I'm helping a guy who's taking over his local home owners association. They send out little newsletters & get-together notices to approx. 250 people.
The original guy was using his ISP email (Westnet) & had no dramas using BCC. The new guy thought he'd just make a Gmail for this group-- but as the title says, everything comes back as spam. I even tried a BCC to 25 people, back it came.
I was going to ring his ISP, Telstra (ugh), but it takes forever to reach the first line of tech support & they generally won't even speak to you unless you're a client.
Meanwhile, the guy I'm helping has gone for a short holiday so I don't have access to his machine, atm. So, in the meantime, I figured I'd see if anybody here had a clue.

If he tried to send an email to that many addresses in one fell swoop he is probably blacklisted - the fact that they bounce eliminates his computer, client, and ISP. Either Google has flagged his account or some of the larger receiving ISP's have flagged his address. The bounce emails are cryptic at best, but they usually point to a root cause.
I would suggest he setup a free MailChimp account - http://mailchimp.com/ and use that to send the announcements and newsletters. In the end I think it will save him a lot of heartache. The subscribers can even manage their own email address changes.
ISP's are very peculiar about email. Send too many, or to too many invalid addresses, in a short period (in this case all at once) and alarms go off. As an example DCT only sends 40 emails over a 5 minute period.
I'm thinking now it may have been him trying, on his own, before I got there. He/they may have flagged the account before I stepped in.
That still doesn't explain the previous guy's own ISP being fine with him sending 250+ at a go?
I guess mailchimp is an option- but was trying to stick with something non-threatening- lol. For some older folks, even a new email address (took me some time to convince him to try Gmail) is scary.

Gmail is pretty strict about their accounts, meaning they don't tolerate mass emails that may get their address space blacklisted. Many smaller ISP's don't have the know how, personnel, or processes to monitor for those conditions.
