News update---------- did the weekly back up and had no problem. That is not to say all is well - experience has shown this to be one of those that will come back to haunt me at a timing of its own choosing. Still looking for an aux. drive to make back ups on. Thanks for all the information.

soldat...glad to hear things are getting back to normal. Something occurred to me: did you recently change blank disks? Or open a fresh pack, or use the last few in one? Coasters have happened to me in the past because of that. These days, I just stick with Verbatims and haven't had a problem.

Finding an auxiliary drive shouldn't be too tough. Check Newegg, Mwave, or Tiger Direct. Isn't there a Fry's in Arlington?

best of luck

Ron

Ooo. mwave.

be very careful with them. they sold me a computer once with a bad motherboard and tried to blame the problem on me. it took 6 weeks and a lawyer for me to get my money back (by the time they offered a replacement I was sick of the company and demanded a refund). They may have good prices...but beware.

Yes on both accounts. I did use new disks from a new box & yes there is a Fryes in Arlington. However in dealing with them it is a "buyer beware" situation.
