This is one extremely useful site http://www.filehippo.com for anyone wishing to obtain a copy of any [b:ikyl18k4]newer[/b:ikyl18k4] or [b:ikyl18k4]older[/b:ikyl18k4] program. The best example would be using Firefox. The current version shown is Firefox 5.0 Beta 7, but you can get 16 pages of previous versions, all the way down to Firefox 1.0
Not bad for someone wanting any older more stable version of a program (and yes, Firefox 3.6.18, the latest security fix version is there too). Very often they have updates to programs that take forever to get listed (Beta and RC included).

While FileHippo is a great place to check for software updates, it was among the ones that fell vicitm to an infected installer for "The KMPlayer" (I think it was the version before the latest one).
My approach is to check FileHippo, Kaldata, TweakGuides and Gizmo's Freeware News List to check for updates. If any available, I go to the developer's site to download what I need, just to be on the safe side.
Cheers
