OK... I get it... ?

Apparently the forum account still exists (Bluedog), but I have the incorrect password. I've clicked on "Forgotton Password" and it confirms that a new password has been sent to my email address. Unfortunately, I neglected to write down that the email address associated with the forum account. If it is a Yahoo account then that Yahoo account has long since been deleted. I lost faith in Yahoo's ability to provide a secure email service after they were hacked so many times. Oddly, my wife still uses Yahoo for her email. Nothing I said could convince her to give Yahoo the flick. And she used to be a Computer Systems Analyst back in the days when COBOL was THE programming language favored by most financial institutions.

I've checked some other email accounts that I may have used but no password from DCT in any of them.

Perhaps you could give me the first 2 or 3 letters of the email account prefix and, if it's not a Yahoo account, I may be able to track down this mystery.

Back in 2010, when I opened the Bluedog account, I wrote the information down in an index book. That book is almost falling apart now and I've ceased using it except to lookup old information. I admit to having been pretty sloppy at record keeping back then. I now at least record the date I open an account an the email address I've associated with it.

Cheers,

Richard Pedersen

Hi Krakatoa,
I don't have access to passwords for accounts in neither the Forum nor the Blog. Nobody at DCT has access to that information. Passwords are stored as encrypted data and it is up to the User to keep track of those things.

I can provide a temporary password for the Blog if necessary, but that would be for one-time use and it is recommended that it be immediately replaced with one personally chosen by you.

I would suggest that you create a new Forum account, like the one you're currently using, and start from the beginning.

I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but I have no alternative options at my disposal,
Richard

PS I'll take a quick look at your Forum profile to see if there's anything useful, but don't hold your breath.

PPS I found a "bluedog" account in this forum's member list. It is an Australian Yahoo account: ttey******@yahoo.com.au, dated September 2, 2010.

PPPS COBOL?!! My first language was COBOL and I hated it. Too wordy. I even had to use punch cards back then-- arghhh... 🙂

Hi Richard,

Thanks, mystery solved. The email address "ttey***" was one of my first ever. It ended with a 3. I deactivated that account in Dec 2016. I migrated many forum and other accounts over to another web-mail service provider but missed DCT. Not important. I'm happy to use this new forum account.

Just had a look at some of my Bluedog comments. One was discussing "Logo Creator" and I said,

"...sizable download of 45.28 MB, so hope it's worth it."

How things have changed since 2010.

Talking about COBOL, my wife said that she sometimes had to ring the computing center and get them to "load up" another tape unit. She also mentioned Prime Computers.

Security at data centers back in the early 80's was non-existent. I sometimes had to deliver tapes to several data centers. I would just walk into where the mainframe and spinning tape disks were located. There were no reception desks, no guards, no ID checks.

I recall with a smile the first time I visited one particular center. It was situated on the ground floor of an office block. When you walked into the lobby it was straight ahead and behind glass doors with a NO ADMITTANCE sign. I naturally ignored that as there was no reception desk and every other center expected me to walk in. As soon as I entered guys in white lab coats came running and started yelling at me to get out. I wonder if they ever realized that a NO ADMITTANCE sign won't really stop people.

Another regular task was to delivery make the rounds with a briefcase chained to my wrist. I wonder if people still have to do that?

Re the blog, I didn't know it existed. Just did a search and found it. I doubt that I'd use it, but thanks anyway.
