If you constantly need to create new passwords for web forums etc., then this program may be of interest to you. From the website: "Random Password Generator generates any quantity of passwords with one mouse click." http://www.paehl.de/english.php
Check out Dirk Paehl's other programs while you're there.

Over the years, I've generated a bucket of strong passwords and saved them as text files all over the place. When I use one, I write down the site name/software/etc. and save it in the file. That file gets backed up to to external HD and disk. I'm not halfway through yet.

Neat!

For a couple years now I've used this site to generate strong passwords:

Every refresh gives different passwords!! And it provides for secure, but pronounceable passwords - the theory being that pronounceable passwords are easier to remember. ~shrug~

Enjoy!

Are these types of applications really necessary? Perhaps for the unimaginative?? Sorry guys

Seriously, what do you use these for in particular?? I have just one password which consists of letters and numbers. I use the basic password for all relatively unimportant areas and change the format for anything which demands better security, e.g. Paypal account.

Example: Say your nickname at home was Porky and your partner's nickname was Pookie. The basic password would be something like; porkypookie560. Now, you could change that around in any combination you liked but the content would remain constant; e.g. 5pookieporky60, 56porkypookie0. Now, if you wish to make the password that little bit stronger, just capitalise the odd letter; e.g. PorKyPoOkie560.

I've tested similar on one of those sites which rate password strength and got the highest rating.

I'm interested to know; Do you think the system as related above provides a strong enough password (and if not, why not)? What sort of passwords do these programs come up with and under what circumstances, in particular, would one use those passwords??

Cheers....JIM

I administer a system of dozens of users with multiple accounts and FTP accounts and system accounts. Rather than having to think of new passwords every day, I use the website above to come up with passwords that are memorable and then the unreadable ones for the more secure system passwords.

for my personal passwords, no, I don't use the above programs. But the above programs are a good way not to have to think of passwords.

I must admit Ziggie, I was looking at it purely from the average home users perspective. Didn't even consider the work environment or, for that matter, any other situation where multiple users with multiple accounts might be involved. I must learn to think more outside the box

I can certainly see how someone in your situation or similar would benefit from these types of services and applications.

Thanks mate,
JIM
