took a snapshot of the desktop, tried to attach a jpg pic of it Dave, but "too large" - there was nothing to grab to stretch the quick launch space - the process worked fine up to then, now what have I done wrong?

Right click on the area of the Taskbar where the clock is and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar".
