Ocster Backup Pro 5 offers a truly automatic backup solution with many excellent features. This software would normally sell for $39.90usd but is currently available (for a limited time) free, direct from the developers.

[quote:25efi0fn]Ocster Backup Pro 5 is the successor to the highly regarded Ocster Backup Pro 4. It continues the focus on being a fully automatic and easy to use backup solution. You simply specify what you want backed up and when and then the software takes care of the rest.

The new version 5 adds a great feature called "Versioning". Versioning means that the software keeps multiple old versions of your files and you can access them at any time. A big percentage of data losses are accidental file modifications or deletions. This feature makes it easy to recover your data if you make a mistake.

* Fully Automatic: Creates fully automatic backups of your data.
* Versioning: Easily access and restore different older versions of your files.
* Automatic Pausing: Backups are done in the background and are automatically paused to prevent them from slowing down other programs.
* Outlook Support: Back up your Microsoft Outlook emails and calendars with a single mouse click.
* Encryption: Backups are strongly encrypted and protected with a user password. The encryption algorithm can be configured, if that is desired.
* Compression: Backups are compressed intelligently to save space.
* Scheduled: Backups can be started either automatically at scheduled times or manually by clicking a button.
* Storage Types: Backups can be stored on hard disk, USB sticks, network drives and Ocster Secure Storage.[/quote:25efi0fn]

This looks interesting...

i use Genie Backup Home on my machines but I'm always looking for something to try (and maybe at least use on friends' boxes). Downloading as I write.

Downloaded and got the license key. I'll get to it over the weekend. Be nice to compare the two side by side.
Currently, I have GBH installed on four desktops, a laptop, and a netbook. Another machine has Genie Timeline Pro installed, so I'm kind of invested in the s/w.

Update: I just got an email from Ocster offering a discount on the soon-to-be released v.6. You can upgrade from previous versions - even the free promotion - for USD $9.98 if ordered before Nov. 3. They'll send you the serial now and the download link on or after 11/3. I'm doing it just to keep the s/w in my pocket.
