I've been gone a while but now I'm back. My question is this. A friend has tried to download Jetclean from 4 different sites and each time the download is stopped and flagged as a virus. He disabled his antivirus and was able to download and install it but when he reactivated his av it caught it, and Malwarebytes free caught it and quarantined it. All the sites he tried downloading it from claim to test all software and claim their software is virus free and safe. Any knowledge on why this would be happening?
Hey Claw,
Nice to hear from you again, it’s been a while.
I managed to download the installable version of Jetclean and ran the executable through Virus Total. Here is a link to the Virus Total Report: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/8c0bc3ebb4330e5c886fe49acc8a631cfcc6a2c848d4b99fadde3a2dc213c56f
As you can see, almost half the antivirus engines flag the Jetclean executable as malicious. Considering the numbers, I think it’s highly unlikely this would be a false positive and suggest that your friend should stay well away from this software.
I have no idea why those supposedly safe download sites are hosting this download but I did notice that the listing is dated February 2016. My guess would be that the executable was clean when initially added to the download sites’ listing but has since been somehow injected with malicious code. Who knows!
Hey Jim.
I got my buddy to stay away from Jetclean and I showed him how to clean and optimize his system with Privazer and Tweaking.Com Simple System Tweaker, it only performs safe tweaks, the ones like you and I know how to do manually. Really nice to talk to you again my old friend. I'll be around more often. Take care Jim.
