I have just come across this piece.
How desirable / practical is this?

Should You Deep Freeze Your Hard Drive?

There’s a software tool that claims to make your PC or Mac computer indestructible. It does this by 'freezing' your hard drive, so your computer's software and settings can be returned to a pristine state every time you start it up.

I trust Bob Rankin but this time I think it's probably bad advice. I am suspicious of any software that claims it can basically solve all your troubles... like snake oil.

I would have to look very closely at this one before I can offer any firm advice.

If you decide to try this one out, I strongly recommend that you make backups. A lot of them...

I agree with Richard. This sounds very similar to sandboxing or virtual environment software which has been around for a long time. Deep Freeze is quite expensive and even if it works perfectly I can't see the cost being justified. There are very similar free alternatives:

Looks like Shadow Defender (as per the third link) is no longer freeware but included anyway to show that this is definitely not a new concept.

Sounds like some kind of an encrypted virtual environment, I would be cautious, considering the cost.
