Hi there,
A friend is looking for a free email service for personal use. Needs are not very demanding, use of email client would be appreciated.

Did some searching (Fastmail doesn't look bad), but would like to here some suggestions, other than Gmail, Yahoo & Hotmail (we all know about those), based on personal experience (pros/ cons).
I stumbled on Lavabit, anyone knows anything about it?

Thanks ahead.

Hey FD - What would be wrong with Windows Live Mail? It manages IMAP very well.

Fastmail - Did you check out the restrictions in the Free version, compared to the versions which require subscription: http://www.fastmail.fm/mail/pe.....sonal.html

Lavabit "Personal Account" appears more reasonable, and betterer.

Don't have any personal experience to speak of so can't really help much......

Cheers....Jim

Nothing is more or less wrong with any of the major ones, I'd just like to see what other reliable options one has.
About Fastmail, yes I've checked them, but he's not much of a sender/ receiver.
Lavabit's features list looks appealing, that's why I asked if anyone has knowledge/ experience.

Thanks for your time, Jim.

in my younger days I tried out all sorts of weird free ones trying to find something unique to use. Then I just rented my own domain instead and host it through Google. These days I use gmail for everything.

The two I remember being really neat (alloymail.com, gurlmail.com) have been shut down.

i use windows live mail but my Avast seems not to check the emails properly and i really am not so happy with it. Now i either will change my antivirus or my mail client. Thunderbird is another option i think. Hope you find the right thing for you.
