In the June 2011 of Dave's Computer Tips, there was a review of Macrium Reflect free as a poor second cousin to Acronis True Image which is considered the best imaging program but which is not free.
However, I have never seen it mentioned that there are two free versions of Acronis - one for Western Digital harddrives and one for Seagate. I use both of them and they work perfectly for me. They can be downloaded from http://support.wdc.com/product/download ... p?swid=119 for Western Digital and http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/suppor ... discwizard for Seagate drives.
Be aware that they are large downloads +/- 125 mb for WD and 155 mb for Seagate.

The comparison was made between FREE imaging software and COMMERCIAL imaging software in general. The comparison would be applicable regardless of the names involved.

Never seen it mentioned where? We have mentioned that fact at DCT many times. It was not included in that particular article because the article was about Macrium Reflect Free specifically and not about imaging freeware in general.
The article was written as a review and guide for Macrium Reflect Free. Comparisons were made with commercial counterparts, and Acronis True Image in particular, to stress to readers that they will only get a [i:m8dlqu7j]complete[/i:m8dlqu7j] backup/imaging solution if they pay for it, freeware will provide basic functionality only (and that includes the hard drive specific free versions of Acronis too).

Just to add a bit to this...
Charlieb, that's good information to share for other who might not be aware. They should also know that the Western Digital and Seagate versions should be considered "lite" versions and are missing some of the features that are available in the full version.
