Open source and cross-platform, this software has come a long way since its beta days. There's also a download for a plugin interface, but I haven't had time to investigate that.

"digiKam is an advanced digital photo management application for KDE, which makes importing and organizing digital photos a "snap". The photos can be organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by directory layout or by custom collections."

Download is a 14+Mb tar gz2 file. You'll need something like 7-zip to extract it. Full size 60.7Mb. [b:387xo5d2]Note:[/b:387xo5d2] Unless you know how to compile a program, give this a pass. It's not that hard, but you really should have a little experience with compiling and/or KDE.
