have never had any problems with the two.
Avg is easy free and does not give me any problems to update or any slowdowns at all. i really like it a lot. Been using it since some years ago. On another laptop i use KIS 2010 and also been using many others such as
McAffe Norton Avast Avira DrWeb K7 Rising and so on. i am stuck with Avg
ZoneAlarm is another very favorite software for me but my lic expired and now i a using KIS as a friend gave it to me from the Raymonds forum

Hey Gery - Wow...you've certainly given 'em all a test run.

I was just interested because AVG Free would certainly not be my first choice these days.

AVG Free used to be one of the best but that has changed with the later versions. Not only in my opinion but in a lot of other peoples opinions too.
Users often complain about excessive memory usage and AVG Free does not include an anti-rootkit component. Plus the results of AV detection rate tests place AVG well behind both Avast (free) and Avira (free).

That said, I guess with security products most people tend to stick with whatever has worked for them in the past....and that makes sense to me too!!

Cheers....Jim

I use Avast! for antivirus.
Spybot for Spyware scans weekly.
Superantispyware monthly.
I have a hardware firewall. When I travel the Windows firewall is sufficient for me.

Avast! is the only real time scanner I have in place, and I have considered turning off the realtime aspect on my personal computer.

I keep it simple.
All my machines with internet access use:
Online Armor Pro
Eset NOD 32 v.4
Malwarebytes Pro
a2 Free (the commercial version has AV I don't need)
WinPatrol 2010 (on two of the production machines)

Virtualization with VirtualBox

With the exception of a2 and VirtualBox, all are paid-for commercial apps.

I'm with Ron (ElmerFudd). I'm a big fan of ESET. I use the Smart Security suite, but I started using their products back in the early NOD days. Never had anything but good things to say about their products. I also have SAS and Malwarebytes installed for the occasional scan.

However, we all do the "this is better than that" when talking security. The important point in any discussion like this is any security is better than no security. The number 1 security tool you have available at any cost? The one between your ears!

I so agree with that!!

The 'this is better than that' discussion is pretty fruitless really, people tend to stick with whatever has worked for[i:2zxtb3t6] them[/i:2zxtb3t6], and rightly so.

[i:2zxtb3t6]"One of the most effective ways to avoid malware is to adopt a safe surfing policy. Stay away from disreputable sites and be careful what you click on. Ideally, everyone would follow that creed but in reality not too many do. That is simply human nature and one of the main reasons we need that
