This is more of a question than a statement. I am aware that using a VPN protects users while they are surfing the net, meaning all communication used within this VPN is shielded and no one knows your ip address. But, while using the VPN and surfing, you can still receive updates and communications from companies whose software you have purchased and installed, since they know your real ip address. Is this correct (I believe so), Mindblower!

Yes and no. Yes, you can still receive updates from companies for installed software when connected through a VPN but not because they know your real IP address. The update mechanisms built into installed software do not rely on IP addresses at all - they are completely independent of IP addresses.
Consider this: if software updates relied on IP addresses, every time someone changed ISPs, their software updates would no longer work.
