My wife teaches "recent arrivals" English, one new student is apparently very computer savvy. He wants to use his laptop to access the net during lessons. She trusts him, I objected, but after some discussion agreed to change the password when he visits. I decided to remove it then restore it after his lesson. Any thoughts on this? The password is the one that shows up in the router settings when the cursor is hovered over it. Router is a Netcomm

I assume we are talking about a wifi password? Or are we talking about the password to access router configuration settings?

I guess it's the WiFi password Jim - the router is NetComm NB604N - from the settings, Wireless - Security - WPA/WAPI passphrase
thanks for replying,

Okay, thanks. I can't see any problem with you changing the original wifi password temporarily and then changing it back again. Just so long as the student doesn't know the original password.

Just one thought; have you changed the password required to access the router's configuration settings? This password is generally set to "admin" by default and anyone computer savvy would know that. In an open situation involving multiple users, such as a classroom, this is critical. If you haven't changed that default password yet I suggest you do do as soon as possible.

Cheers... Jim

That's all the reassurance I need Jim and yes I changed "admin" -- "admin" - I don't really know why this guy needs to go online, he's here for an hour or so to learn the finer points of the English language not learn about computers. I tried to tell my wife that but i guess you've had experience trying to get a woman to change her mind???? - thanks again for your advice, till next time, cheers Maurylen
