Hi all:

Not sure if I'm in the right area, but anyway, does anyone have experience with Carbonite as a backup? I know of Acronis True Image and use it, but would like to get some input about Carbonite.

I've not used Carbonite, but they're very similar to Mozy and I've been using Mozy for years with no problems.

So...close.

Hey Nightowl - Carbonite is for personal data backup only. Also, using the service incurs an ongoing monthly (or annual) fee. I hate things which involve ongoing costs, would rather pay big money once upfront than any sort of monthly (or annual) fee forever.

Seems to me Carbonite would be best suited for newbies who either have no idea how to use offline backup programs or simply can't be bothered.

Have a look at this page mate, includes an editorial review plus some user comments [url=http://download.cnet.com/Carbonite-Online-Backup/3000-2242_4-10556998.html?tag=mncol:3kxnncm7]HERE.[/url:3kxnncm7].

Cheers...Jim

in general i hate subscription fees to.

But Mozy, for US $5 / month backs up my entire document / media / whatever library and not only handles backups, versioning, and offsite storage, but is dead simple to use (set it and forget it).

For me, that's worth the $60 / year versus the time I'd spend swapping hard drives on and off site.

It sounds like Carbonite is a carbon copy of Mozy. The fee is $54 or $55 a year and it is all offsite.

This came up with a hard drive that went south, a new hard drive was installed and a complete backup was installed from there account that was off site at Carbonite. Except for the annual fee it sounds like a pretty effective way of backing up.

Anyway thanks for the input.
